There are quite a number of scholarship opportunities in Germany. Scholarships in Germany are mostly either government-funded, non-government funded or university specific. Most of the non-government funded scholarships are sponsored by political, scientific and philanthropic organisations across the country. Scholarship opportunities in the country are open to Germans and international students alike, based on different specific eligibilities some of which include age, field of study, merit and local political involvement.
The generous Heinrich Böll Foundation gives numerous scholarships to local and international students, refugees inclusive, at all degree levels mostly to those pursuing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects. DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service offer international students several scholarships at all degree levels. The organisation supports more than 100,000 researchers and students from around the world yearly. Another government initiative, the Deutschland Stipendium, gives merit-based scholarships of €300 per month to very talented enrolled students at German universities regardless of their personal income or nationality. For institution-backed opportunities, the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences provides scholarships of up to €400 a month, four months a semester for certain Master's degree courses’ students.
