UQ PhD International Scholarship in Mixed-Reality Application
- $28,597 p.a.
- 6 November 2020
This project aims to create a mixed-reality application where low SES community members (refugees, homeless) can create their own virtual environments that they desire. This will enable a kind of storytelling for sharing experiences and empowering low SES members to re-imagine their lives. To achieve this goal, there is a demand for the deeper understanding of making practices within low SES communities.
The project will include the following phases:
- An ethnographic study of making practices in low SES communities.
- A design and development project of a novel low-cost MR kit to support non-expert design and making by augmenting contextual, accurate and interactive information into physical workspace.
- Evaluate the prototype in makerspaces and iterate the design process.
The successful applicant will enrol through the School of Information Technology & Electrical Engineering.
A working knowledge of ethnography, participatory design and UI/UX prototyping would be of benefit to someone working on this project.
