Sport and Exercise Sciences: Fully Funded KESS II MSc by Research Scholarship: A scoping audit of the use of sport and physical activity as a crime prevention tool across Police Forces and Police and Crime Commissioners in Wales
Start date: July 2021
There are various strategic areas where sport is used as a prevention method, such as violence prevention units and in youth crime (criminal justice system). However, these initiatives vary across the different policing regions of Wales and there is not currently a comprehensive pan Wales picture available that captures these initiatives. Importantly, these initiatives are yet to be rigorously evaluated for their effectiveness.
The aim of this project is threefold:
- Conduct an audit of investments in sport and physical activity initiatives by the Police Forces and Police and Crime Commissioners in Wales;
- Gather best practice across all Forces in conjunction with the National Board, and,
- Interpret the latest Insight and its relevant value to communities in Wales.
Findings from the project will help shape future strategy regarding the use of sport and physical activity in the area of crime prevention in Wales.
The project will be implemented under the auspices of the Welsh Institute of Physical Activity, Health and Sport (WIPAHS) and in partnership with the Policing in Wales Board.
