Project title: IACHUS-Bridgend Project: Improving Attainment+Activity by enriching Children’s Health and Well-being in the Community and in Schools across Bridgend.
The IACHUS-Bridgend project aims to integrate currently used data capture methods to inform Bridgend County Borough Council’s strategic priorities for Health, Well-being, Physical Activity and Attainment. This mixed-methods project consists of three key Phases. Phase 1 will integrate currently separate data collection methods, namely, health and fitness (Fitness Fun-day), well-being, lifestyle and behaviour (CHAT), physical competence (Dragon Challenge) and academic attainment (school assessed literacy, numeracy, science and technology). Phase 1 will also develop a shared data platform that is cloud based. Phase 2 will exploit the integrated data platform and undertake complex data analysis. This phase will offer Bridgend County Borough Council with evidence on demographic trends across the Borough. In turn, the evidence in phase 2 will inform the planning and design of the third phase of the study: ‘Planning for Improvement’ well-being workshops. Phase 3 will evaluate the effectiveness of the pre-existing ‘Planning for Improvement’ well-being workshops. Using a whole-community approach, this phase will see partners collaborate to co-produce an effective professional development workshop for teachers and parents to improve children’s health, well-being and physical literacy. The ‘FaCE the challenge together’ toolkit (Family and Community engagement toolkit for schools in Wales) will be applied in Phase 3 (Welsh Government, 2015).
Scholarships are collaborative awards with external partners including SME’s and micro companies, as well as public and third sector organisations. The scholarship provides 3 years of funding with a 6 month period to complete the thesis. The achievement of a postgraduate skills development award, PSDA, is compulsory for each KESS II scholar and is based on a 60 credit award.
