This scholarship is established in honor of Major General (Ret.) William Russell Cotney in recognition of his 40 years of meritorious service to his country in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard and in honor of his daughter, Lauren Cotney, who following in her father’s footsteps, is distinguishing herself as a Pilot for Delta Air Lines and in her service to her country as a member of the Air National Guard.

Eligibility

  • Successful applicants must be women pursuing a professional airline pilot career as a junior, senior, or graduate level student enrolled in an accredited college or university aviation, engineering, or aeronautical science program.
  • Preference will be given to Veterans, current service members, or daughters of Veterans or current service members (Proof required).
  • To be considered candidates must submit academic transcripts demonstrating a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale); two (2) letters of recommendation from faculty members, flight instructors, or pilots who have flown with applicant; and an essay describing goals, achievements, honors, community involvement, and leadership skills.
