Seeking highly motivated PhD student who is interested in the use of advanced materials in biomedical applications using additive manufacturing technologies. Fresh graduates from any engineering background are welcomed to apply.

Magnesium alloys are increasingly used as new generation biomaterials due to their ability to dissolve into the body fluids after bone regeneration. However, due to the complex structures of bones, it is difficult to manufacture magnesium implants via conventional manufacturing techniques such as casting. This project will study the feasibility of using additive manufacturing (AM) technique to manufacture magnesium alloys for biomedical applications.

Eligibility

You must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident or an ONSHORE international student meeting the minimum English language requirements
  • Have a Master by Research degree or a Master by Coursework degree with a significant research component graded as high distinction or equivalent or an Bachelor Honours degree achieving first class Honours. Studies must have been completed in engineering, science, or another suitable field
  • Provide evidence of good oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team.

Benefits

Up to $31,000 per annum for three years with a possible extension of six months (full-time).
