- Full cost of UK/EU tuition fees, plus a stipend
- Deadline: September 1, 2018
This scholarship is funded by Swansea University's College of Human and Health Sciences.
Subject areas: Psychology (developmental) or related disciplines
Applications are invited for a PhD project to work with Dr Victoria Lovett at Swansea University in the area of developmental psychology. The PhD project will involve conducting research into the determinants of infant imitation, specifically investigating the role of pseudo-imitative mechanisms in infant imitation. The PhD will focus on determining the contribution of pseudo-imitative mechanisms on observed imitative behaviour using behavioural and eye tracking techniques. There is some scope within the PhD to investigate imitation and pseudo imitative mechanisms within tasks involving older children and adults, though it is envisaged that most of the research will be conducted with infants.
The lab has experience in a number of experimental techniques, in addition to eye tracking, the Psychology Department at Swansea has access to EEG, NIRS, and MRI facilities, any of which may be used in pursuit of the PhD.
Whilst previous experience with eye-tracking or EEG is desirable, preference will be given to those who have previous experience conducting research with children and/or parents, as training in eye tracking and neuroimaging techniques can be provided.
The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute up to 6 hours of teaching per week in various roles around the Psychology Department.
Candidates should have a first class honours degree or MSc in psychology (developmental psychology) or a related discipline.
Previous experience with infant participants, and parents, and/or experience with eye tracking or EEG are strongly desired.
