The Centre for Contemporary Middle East Studies at the Department of History invites applications for two PhD scholarships in the field of Contemporary Middle East Studies.
The University of Southern Denmark is a university in Denmark. It has campuses located in Funen, Southern Jutland and Zealand. It has campuses located in Funen, Southern Jutland and Zealand. The university offers a number of joint programmes in co-operation with the University of Flensburg and the University of Kiel.
Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.
Documented knowledge of a regional language and/or longer periods of residence in the region will be an advantage. Moreover, candidates with a background in religious studies or U.S.-Middle Eastern relations are welcome to apply. Only applicants who will have passed their MA exams are eligible for the scholarships.

A PhD Fellowship is a three-year position. Employment ends automatically by the end of the period. The holder of the fellowship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.
Applications should be sent electronically. Application and all appendices must be in Danish, English or one of the Scandinavian languages. Only material in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and English will be assessed. Please always include a copy of original diploma/certificates. The application should include:
- Special PhD-application form
- Curriculum Vitae
- Detailed project description, no more than 5 pages a 2400 units (including spaces)
- Examination certificates
- A maximum of 2 of the most relevant publications. Please attach one pdf-file for each publication. For any publication with a co-author, a co-author statement must be submitted as part of the pdf-file
