The Oei Family Scholarship was established in 2018 and maintained by gifts from the Oei Family, in honour of Emeritus Professor Tian Po Sumantri Oei and his contribution to the discipline of psychology at The University of Queensland.

Eligibility

You're eligible if you:

  • are enrolled, or intend to enrol, in an approved program
  • do not hold another scholarship that the Head considers to be similar.

We'll consider:

Demonstrated evidence of one or more of the following:

o financial need

o being from a rural or regional area

o being the first in your family to attend university

o being from a non-English speaking background

  • the strength of your personal statement explaining the benefit you would gain from the scholarship
  • any other matter the selection committee considers relevant for your future academic success.

The value of the scholarship is $5,000.

Application

If you're an eligible student, you'll receive an invitation to apply.

Your application needs to include:

  • your name, program of study and enrolment status (part-time or full-time)
  • how you meet one or more of the following criteria:

o financial disadvantage

o being from a Rural or Regional Area

o being the first in their family to attend university

o being from a non-English speaking background

o aspiration to work in rural and/or remote locations after graduation.

A personal statement of no more than 500 words explaining how the Oei Family Scholarship will assist in the completion of your program.
