As one of the UK’s larger music departments, The International Centre for Music Studies at Newcastle University sustains a distinctive and plural research culture. We are seeking candidates of the highest calibre in any of our areas of research strength, which include:
- Early music
- Ethnomusicology and world musics
- Folk and traditional musics
- Popular music studies
- Music of the 20th and 21st centuries
- Critical and cultural musicology
- Music and cultural policy
- Music theory and analysis
- Composition – score or studio based
- Performance, Improvisation, and other forms of interdisciplinary creative practice
Home and International students (including EU) are eligible to apply.
You should hold, or expect to achieve, a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree or international equivalent in music or a closely related discipline.
International students whose first language is not English need IELTS 7.0 overall (with a minimum of 6.5 in all other sub-skills) or equivalent.
