This project (20FUN02 POLight) has received funding from the EMPIR programme co-financed by the Participating States and from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
Funding providers: Swansea University's Faculty of Science and Engineering and part funded by European Commission
Subject areas: Analytical Chemistry, Optical Spectroscopy, Imaging, artificial intelligence
Project start date:
- 1 July 2022 (Enrolment open from mid-June)
Supervisors: Dr Deb Roy, Dr Kevin O’Keeffe
Aligned programme of study: PhD in Nanotechnology
Mode of study: Full-time
Project description:
Applications are invited from interested candidates from the field of engineering, physics, chemistry, material science and related subjects for a 3 year PhD studentship to work on label-free optical imaging for applications in materials and biological sciences.
In this project you will develop new microscopy and imaging techniques by combining atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy for chemical and biological analysis at spatial resolution ranging from 10 nm to few microns. The project will build upon a successful collaboration between Swansea University and the national measurement institutes in Europe.
