Modul University Vienna offers 4 scholarships for the 4-years PhD program in Business and Socioeconomic Sciences, for a study begin in Fall 2021. The scholarships consist of full or partial tuition waivers, whereby we offer one full tuition waiver, one 75% waiver, and two 50% waivers.

Modul University Vienna’s PhD program seeks outstanding candidates for joining its research team as a PhD candidate. Modul University combines a strong academic foundation with stateof-the-art curricula and a commitment to innovation and sustainability. Successful candidates have a strong background in quantitative research methods and demonstrated research interests and skills in one of our research areas.

The fully-funded PhD Scholarship covers four years from September 2021 on. It allows students to take courses and conduct doctoral research leading to the dissertation, potentially also teaching in the undergraduate program.

The university seeks candidates whose doctoral research will be related to one or more of the following scientific areas:

  • Information Systems
  • Marketing
  • Sustainable Development
  • Public Governance
  • Service Management
  • Tourism
  • Leisure Science
  • Quality of Life, Well-being, and Environmental Psychology

Interested applicants should also refer to our research blogs as well as the research profiles of our faculty members for more detailed information about the research foci of the faculty and the opportunities for doctoral research. The application must include a research proposal of 5 to 10 pages about a research project within these areas, and explicitly assigned to one of them and related to a research focus listed in one of the faculty profiles.


  • A completed Master or Diploma Degree (by September 2021) in a field of the social sciences, business, tourism and/or hospitality management, statistics, information systems, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent analytical skills and evidence of the potential to undertake cutting-edge research and scholarship.
  • Excellent written and spoken English (German is not a requirement as English is the working language). The minimum scores are: TOEFL: 100 Internet-based test (IBT) with no individual section score less than 20; or IELTS: overall band score between 7 and 7.5 with no sub-score below 6.0. The Admissions Committee may decide upon the recognition of other evidence of language skills.
