Non-Dutch nationals are eligible for a scholarship awarded by the Leiden Institute of Physics (LION) on funds made available by the Den Adel Fund for Experimental Physics and the Lorentz Fund for Theoretical Physics. About 10% of the admitted candidates are awarded a scholarship, on the basis of academic merit.

Each scholarship (€ 6000 per year) is awarded for one year, renewable for the second year subject to satisfactory performance (i.e., 60EC with a GPA>8 in the first year). Be advised, scholarships do not exempt from the tuition fee of Leiden University, nor from the potential ‘proof of sufficient funds’ for the student visa/residence permit application to the Dutch Immigration Office (required for non EER nationals).
• Apply for admission to the MSc program in Physics through the official website. Note that only applications that are complete before the deadline will be considered. • The motivation letter for admission should explicitly mention the application to the fellowship and argue the academic merit. • Add to your application file one reference letter from your current study program supporting your fellowship application. • Send an e-mail to indicate that you apply for a LION scholarship.
