The John Crook Scholarship offers the opportunity to students to study for a second degree at St John's College, University of Cambridge. This can either be a two-year Bachelor degree as an Affiliated student or a one-year Masters/MPhil degree. All subjects of study, apart from Law and Theology, are accepted.


In order to be eligible, you have to:

  • be the first generation in your family to go to University

  • be a current student, or recent graduate, with an exceptional academic record, from an eligible UK university (the full list of eligible universities is on the website)

  • be a British citizen

The John Crook Scholarship is for up to two years (depending on the course), and comprises a maintenance grant at the rate of at least £14,300 per annum plus payment of approved College and University fees.


The completed application form should be sent electronically to and a full application pack, including transcripts, sample of academic work and other supporting documents should be posted to St John's College. You should also contact two academic referees to write a reference letter for you. You can download copies of the application and recommendation forms from the website.
