This scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to a PhD student who is undertaking research on source-to-sink systems at a global scale using state-of-the-art numerical models.
This scholarship is partially funded through a research agreement with BHP Billiton Petroleum (Deepwater) Inc and the University of Sydney and partially by the School of Geosciences, Faculty of Science.


  • have an unconditional offer of admission¬†or be enrolled in a full-time PhD at the Faculty of Science
  • be willing to research¬†quantitative landscape modelling and stratigraphic evolution
  • hold an honours degree (first class or second class upper) or a master's degree in a related field with a substantial research component
  • have a background in geoscience, mathematics or computer sciences or a related field.

This scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance of $50,000 per annum (indexed to the RTP rate on 1 January each year) for up to three years.
An extension for up to six months is available for the stipend only, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
This scholarship will also provide academic course fees and student services and amenities fee (SSAF) for up to twelve research periods.
