FIIA is a research institute at the European forefront and noteworthy in the global context for its strategic cross-cutting themes. The institute was originally established in 1961. In its modern form, the Institute was established by the Parliament of Finland in 2006 and the Parliament also provides the Institute’s basic funding. The Institute is independent in its research activities. It is led by a director and governed by a nine-member board. Leadership and governance are supported by an advisory council and a scientific advisory council.
FIIA invites a senior scholar to conduct research on policy-relevant, strategic and critical issues related to the role of the United States in global political and economic affairs. The Visiting Professor/Senior Fellow will be integrated into the research activities of FIIA’s Center on US Politics and Power (CUSPP). The focus area of CUSPP is the US role in global governance and security and the changing international political economy. The Visiting Professor/Senior Fellow’s research focus should be compatible with these broad research themes and/or with FIIA’s overall thematic research topics. For more information, see http://www.fiia.fi/en/research/.
The Visiting Professor/Senior Fellow can collaborate in ongoing research within FIIA’s three research programs, covering the European Union; the EU’s Eastern Neighborhood and Russia; and Global Security.
The Visiting Professor or Visiting Senior Fellow will be appointed for a period of up to one year. The duration of the appointment and the exact starting date are negotiable.
During the research period at FIIA, the Visiting Professor/Senior Fellow can also participate in activities and networks offered by FIIA’s partners such as the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and Ministry of Defence.
