Named in memory of AU Professor, Dr Tony Simmons, who firmly believed that education should be accessible to everyone. Tony was dedicated to supporting students in secure environments and those from marginalized communities. The Dr Tony Simmons Memorial Award for Marginalized Students will be awarded annually to two AU undergraduate students enrolled in any FHSS undergraduate degree program.

Eligibility

Application Criteria

  • Any undergraduate student enrolled in an FHSS degree program (BA, BGS, BHRLR, BPA)
  • Successful completion of 6 AU credits towards program of study
  • Having achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Students are eligible to receive this award one time only

Selection Criteria

  • Students from marginalized communities
  • First preference given to students from secure environments
  • Second preference given to students in Bachelor of Arts program majoring in Sociology
  • Evaluation of essay response (each essay should be 250-350 words)
