Computer Science: Fully Funded KESS II MSc by Research Scholarship at Swansea University: Blockchain for tracking assembly systems
- Full cost of UK/EU tuition fees, plus a stipend
- 2 November 2018
*This scholarships is part funded by the Welsh Government’s European Social Fund (ESF) convergence programme for West Wales and the Valleys.*
The student will work on the design and analysis of a blockchain powered generic platform for tracking the provenance and usage of assembly systems (for example in vehicle manufacturing). This platform will be linked to existing blockchain systems like Hyperledger Fabric or Sawtooth. In parallel to developing the generic platform the student will also apply it to the use case of vehicular subscription models.
This project will enable OysterBaySystems (OBS) to adapt their in-house systems to incorporate blockchain based transactional data as provided by the use case. OBS predicts that being able to incorporate such transactional data and develop expertise within blockchain technology will be business critical in the near future when developments like subscription models are gaining significant market shares. The current project will be complementary to and build on collaborative research undertaken on a CHERISH-DE funded Escalator project (http://cherish-de.uk/) that will run September-December 2018 and will develop a blockchain demonstrator to explore the basic technology relevant for this project.
Scholarships are collaborative awards with external partners including SMEs and micro companies, as well as public and third sector organisations. The scholarship provides 1 year funding with a 3 month period to complete the thesis. The achievement of a postgraduate skills development award, PSDA, is compulsory for each KESS II scholar and is based on a 30 credit award.
