Eligibility

Residency

All students are eligible to receive a full award, to include fees and a stipend at the standard UKRI Home level. Applicants liable for international fees will have the difference between the home and international fee rate met by their University.

Qualifications

By the time you start your PhD study, you should have:

  • a first or 2:1 honours degree or equivalent
  • a Masters-level qualification

Full-time and part-time study

You may apply to study either full-time or part-time. Part-time studentships will be awarded pro rata (normally 50% for six years).

New students

You must have completed an application to study at Leeds, Sheffield or York, starting in October 2022.

Existing students

If you are less than 12 months (full-time) or 24 months (part-time) into your PhD by October 2022, you may apply for funding to start on 1 October 2022.

Application

You should apply for a place on a PhD programme at least one month in advance of the studentship application deadline.

Up to 48 hours after completing your PhD application, you will receive a 9-digit ID number. You will need this number to make your studentship application.

You should also leave time to discuss your studentship application with your supervisor.
