  • 13 June 2022

Achieving net zero and reducing pollution is a global priority. Resulting from these priorities, significant changes are taking place in the power generation, energy and waste management sectors, both across the UK and around the world.

These need highly skilled engineers, scientists and managers. In recognition of this, Cranfield University’s Centre for Climate & Environmental Protection (CEP) has established the Phil Longhurst Professor’s Scholarship. This full or part-fee scholarship is only available to one truly exceptional candidate and has been designed to equip them for their journey towards making a significant contribution to chemical engineering in the energy industries.

If successful you will work closely with our industrial partners on real-world problems and provide solutions to help meet the UK and global targets related to reducing global and local impacts of energy production and use. Where possible, an industrial mentor will closely shadow you throughout your studies, offering guidance and advice. The team of industrial partners and Cranfield academic staff will give you the skills and knowledge you will need to keep clearly focused on the application of chemical engineering within the energy industries. In return we expect you will work hard, study hard, get great results and turn theory into practice through excellent quality, impactful group project work and individual research. We will expect nothing short of excellence; we’ll select for it and drive it hard during the programme.

This scheme is only open to the best and brightest. It is likely that you will hold a first-class degree in a relevant technical topic and have the ambition and drive to make the most of your time at Cranfield. We expect you will have a career plan that targets the top, have goals you can discuss with us that demonstrate your commitment to being the best and to becoming a leader in your field of work or research. Applications are open to all high calibre students accepted to study on the MSc in Advanced Chemical Engineering in 2022/2023 on a full-time basis.
